U.S. CONTINUES SECURITY HANDOVER

BAGHDAD [MENL] -- The United States continues to transfer securityresponsibility over parts of the Sunni Triangle to Iraq. Iraqi military units have been taking over responsibility from theUnited States in the area of Tikrit, the hometown of deposed PresidentSaddam Hussein and regarded as an insurgency stronghold. Iraqi forces havebeen assigned an area along the Tigris River that would eventually beextended from Baghdad to Mosul.
