TEL AVIV [MENL] -- The Israeli military has relayed its opposition to the
capture of a disputed Jewish-held home in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Military sources said senior commanders, including Central Command chief
Maj. Gen. Gadi Shamni, have warned against army involvement in any operation
to evacuate a Jewish-held home in Hebron. Israel's High Court, questioning
whether Jews actually bought the home from a Hebron Arab resident, has
allowed the government to evict the estimated 100 residents of Beit Hashalom.
"The army does not want to conduct an operation that could lead to a
split within the ranks and perhaps even mass refusal," a military source
said. "This is and should be a police operation."
