Germany Mulls Leopard MBT Deal With Lebanon
NICOSIA [MENL] -- Germany has approved in principle a request to sell the
Leopard main battle tank to Lebanon.
Officials said the Berlin government has agreed to sell or donate 50
surplus Leopard-1 MBTs to the Lebanese Army. They said a formal accord was
expected in early 2009.
"The Germans waited until the Americans said they would sell tanks to
Lebanon," an official said. "At that point, Germany did not feel under any
restraint."
