Morocco Calls For CI Cooperation With NATO

CAIRO [MENL] -- Morocco has urged heightened counter-insurgency cooperation
between North Africa and Europe.
Officials said the Moroccan kingdom has been briefing NATO countries in
Europe on the need for cooperation against Al Qaida and related networks.
They said Morocco has determined that the Al Qaida Organization in the
Islamic Maghreb was planning major strikes in the Mediterranean region in
2009.
"These threats reflect the concerns of North African countries as well
as European countries and the United States, and stresses the need for close
security cooperation with NATO," Karim Mansouri, the political adviser in
the Moroccan embassy in Washington, said.
