Jordan Abandons Islamic Opposition
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Jordan's King Abdullah has abandoned cooperation with
the Islamic opposition to shore up support for his traditional Bedouin
allies, a report said.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy asserted that Abdullah
dismissed Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh in a move that signaled a new policy
meant to bolster the regime. The institute said the king moved from his
courting of the Palestinian-dominated Islamic opposition to renewing ties
with his Bedouin allies.
