Sinai Campaign Enters Phase 2

CAIRO [MENL] -- Egypt has announced the launch of the second phase of the
counter-insurgency campaign in the Sinai Peninsula.
The Egyptian Army said the second phase began on Aug. 31 and would focus
on intelligence and other operations to stop Bedouin and other insurgents in
Sinai. The army said the first phase lasted some three weeks and included
the deployment of thousands of troops as well as main battle tanks, armored
personnel carriers and helicopters.
