UAE Parley Canceled Amid Exclusion

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- A Western conference has been canceled after the United
Arab Emirates barred entry to a Western academic critical of neighboring
Bahrain.
The UAE Foreign Ministry has acknowledged that it refused entry to a
British university lecturer because of his opposition to the Sunni kingdom
in Bahrain. In what reflected heightened Gulf Cooperation Council security
ties, Abu Dhabi said a lecture by the British academic, identified as Coates
Ulrichsen, could torpedo efforts by Manama to reconcile with the Shi'ite
opposition.
