Kurdistan Mil Remains Fragile
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Despite a decade of self-rule, Iraq's Kurdistan
continues to be saddled with a weak military, a report said.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy asserted that Kurdistan's
Peshmerga was finding it difficult to defend against Islamic State of Iraq
and Levant, which captured much of northern Iraq. In a report, the institute
said Kurdistan was cooperating with both the Shi'ite-led government of Iraqi
Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki as well as foreign allies to protect the
autonomous region.
