Russia Blocks MiG-31 Deal With Syria

MOSCOW [MENL] -- Russia has rejected a request by Syria to acquire the
MiG-31 fighter-jet.
Russian officials and industry sources said the Kremlin has decided not
to sell the MiG-31 to Syria. They said the deal was blocked by Israeli and
U.S. pressure as well as a disagreement with Damascus over a repayment
schedule.
"There was serious Syrian interest for the MiG-31, but the deal was not
consumated because a range of factors," an official said.
