EGYPT RELEASES FORMER INSURGENTS

CAIRO [MENL] -- Egypt has been releasing hundreds of former Islamicinsurgents. The Interior Ministry said 950 members of Gamiat Islamiya werefreed from prison over the last few weeks. Gamiat was the leading insurgencygroup in Egypt in the 1990s and blamed for the killing of 58 people, mostlyforeigners, in Luxor in 1997.
