AL QAIDA PENETRATES U.S. CONSUL IN SAUDI

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- In the first such attack, Al Qaida has succeeded inpenetrating a U.S. consulate in Saudi Arabia and holding the facility forseveral hours. U.S. officials said five Al Qaida operatives, employing light weaponsand grenades, blasted their way into the U.S. consulate in Jedda on Mondayand took over the compound for about three hours. They said Al Qaidainsurgents, who arrived at the consulate gate in two vehicles, killed atleast five people before Saudi commandos stormed the consulate and killedmost of the attackers.
