PA Dismisses Intel Chief
RAMALLAH [MENL] -- The Palestinian Authority has dismissed a leading
military intelligence commander.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas signed a decree for the dismissal of General
Intelligence chief Brig. Gen. Tawfiq Tirawi, a critic of the chairman's
policy to reconcile with Hamas. Abbas's office said the decree was signed on
Oct. 21 and that Tirawi, who founded GI in 1994, would be appointed security
adviser and head of the Palestinian National Security Academy.
