Egypt Fails To Block Hamas Smuggling

LONDON [MENL] -- The United States has assessed that Egypt, deemed a leading
ally in the Middle East, would not block Hamas weapons smuggling to the Gaza
Strip.
A State Department report asserted that Washington was facing
difficulties in dealing with Egypt, particularly in security cooperation
with Israel. The report, dated February 2009 and disclosed by WikiLeaks,
portrayed the regime of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak as stubborn,
recalcitrant as well as rejecting cooperation with Israel against the Hamas
regime in the Gaza Strip.
