U.S. Urged To Abandon PA Force
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has been urged to redirect its
efforts in training and equipping Palestinian Authority security forces.
A panel of leading U.S. security analysts advised that the incoming
administration of President-elect Barack Obama abandon the current focus on
bolstering the PA's National Security Force. In a report, the panel, which
included former Defense Department officials and visited Israel and the PA,
warned that NSF was inefficient and unwilling to conduct counter-insurgency
operations in the West Bank.
"The United States should assess whether the NSF should be the principal
target of U.S. assistance," the report by the Washington Institute said.
