Lebanon Seeks To Draft Defense Doctrine
NICOSIA [MENL] -- Lebanon, amid the rising influence of Iran and Syria, has
sought to draft a defense doctrine.
Lebanese political leaders have been discussing a defense doctrine that
would define the role of the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah militia. In May
2008, Hizbullah defeated forces from the ruling party of Lebanese Prime
Minister Fuad Siniora and became the dominant element in the subsequent
coalition.
Anti-Syrian politicians have been organizing a series of sessions to
define Hizbullah's role in the context of a new Lebanese defense doctrine.
