Saudi Raises Prospect Of Assad Coup
LONDON [MENL] -- A leading Saudi analyst raised the prospect that President
Bashar Assad would be overthrown by his military.
Tariq Al Homayed, editor of the Saudi-owned A-Sharq Al Awsat, asserted
that Assad faces a coup from his Alawite-commanded military. Al Homayed,
regarded as reflecting the thinking of the Saudi royal family, said the
Syrian military was being encouraged to join the revolt against Assad, which
began in March 2011.
