U.S. Urged To Expand Ops In Gulf
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has been urged by former leaders of
Congress to expand naval operations in the Gulf in an effort to pressure
Iran to end its nuclear program.
The Bipartisan Policy Center, founded by prominent former members of
Congress, recommended a growing U.S. Navy presence in the Gulf. In a report,
the Washington-based center cited such options as additional warships
operated by the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet as well as exercises near the coast
of Iran with Gulf Cooperation Council allies.
