Israel Seeks Orthodox Conscripts
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel's military has sought to compensate for a steady
decline in conscription by recruiting Orthodox Jews.
Military sources said Israel's changing demography has led to a sharp
decline in the number of Jewish teenagers eligible for the draft. They said
the military has decided to turn to Orthodox Jews, many of whom prefer to
enroll in theological seminaries, in an effort to maintain manpower levels.
