Assad Said To Maintain Military Control
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Despite nearly a year of fighting the Sunni revolt,
President Bashar Assad maintains control over his large military, a report
said.
The report by the Middle East Policy Council asserted that Assad's
military would repel attempts against Damascus throughout at least 2012.
In a report by analyst Joshua Landis, the council said Assad has ensured
loyalty of virtually the entire senior military staff, most of whom consist
of members of the Alawite minority.
