U.S. Military Ignorant Of Syrian Abilities

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States was said to have long ignored the
growing military capabilities of Syria.
Senior U.S. military officers reported that Syria was long overlooked by
Washington. In an e-mail that reported on meetings in December 2011, the
U.S. military brass was regarded as slowly learning the parameters of the
forces under the control of President Bashar Assad.
