Syrian Rebels Increase Capability
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Despite several major defeats, Sunni rebels have become
more capable in their war against the regime of Syrian President
Bashar Assad, a report said.
The Washington Institute for Near East Policy asserted that Sunni
rebels, particularly the Free Syrian Army, were not defeated by the Assad
regime in battles for such Sunni strongholds as Dera, Homs and Idlib in
2012. In a report, the institute said FSA, which claimed up to 50,000
members, marked an emerging force that continued to achieve "important
gains."
