Egypt Refrains From CI Ops In Sinai
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel's intelligence community has determined that Egypt
was not using its thousands of troops for counter-insurgency operations
in the Sinai Peninsula.
Military sources said the assessment by several Israeli intelligence
agencies found no evidence that the Egyptian Army and security forces were
trying to stop insurgents from attacking Israel. They said the military
regime in Cairo was deploying the lion's share of troops in northern Sinai
around the provincial capital of El Arish.
