Libyan Militia Uses MBTs

CAIRO [MENL] -- A leading Libyan militia has deployed Russian-origin main
battle tanks in its war with the new interim government.
The Awfea Brigade, deemed a leading militia, used armored platforms to
attack Tripoli International Airport on June 4. Officials said at least five
main battle tanks and armored personnel carriers stolen from the former
regime of Col. Moammar Khaddafy rolled into the airport and took over the
facility. In all, Awfea deployed 100 armed vehicles, most of them pick-up
trucks, in the airport.
