Iraq Learns Use Of Mortars In CI Missions
BAGHDAD [MENL] -- The U.S. military has been teaching the Iraq Army the use
of mortars in counter-insurgency missions.
Officials said Iraq Army units were learning to operate 60 mm and other
mortars for operations against suspected Al Qaida and Shi'ite insurgents.
They said the two-week course focused on map reading and the fundamentals of
mortar-indirect fire accuracy on enemy targets.
"Every day we are learning [new skills] about the mortar indirect fire
system and how to read a map," Iraqi Cpl. Ali Huthoof said on Feb. 5.
