Israel To Unveil Rocket Defense System
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel plans to unveil its new rocket defense system.
The Israeli state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems intends to
exhibit its Iron Dome defense system against short range artillery rockets
at Eurosatory 2008, scheduled to take place in Paris on June 16. Executives
said the concept of Iron Dome, rather than a prototype, would be displayed
at Eurosatory.
Rafael has described Iron Dome as a mobile defense solution to counter
short-range rockets and artillery shell threats. The system was designed to
be launched only if a threat was identified and the predicted intercept
point was determined to be within the predefined defended area.
"Rafael accepted the challenge to deliver the Iron Dome system ready for
deployment in the first quarter of 2010 as requested," Rafael vice president
David Stemer said. "We are confident that we will provide vital relief to
the citizens of Israel against rocket attacks."
