Germany To Drop MBT Offer To Lebanon
NICOSIA [MENL] -- Germany was expected to shelve an offer to sell main
battle tanks to Lebanon.
Diplomats said the German government was not expected to approve the
sale of Leopard-1 MBTs to the Lebanese Army. They said Berlin did not regard
neither the Lebanese military or government stable, and that the Leopards
could fall into the hands of the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah.
"There is insufficient stability in the country to justify the sale of a
lethal military platform," a diplomat said.
