Russian Arms Exports Could Decline
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The U.S. intelligence community has raised the prospect
that Russian defense exports, including to the Middle East, could decline
amid the global economic crisis.
A key agency in the 16-member intelligence community has assessed that
Russia could experience a sharp drop in arms export orders as early as 2009.
A report by the Defense Intelligence Agency said the drop could take place
as Moscow was seeking to expand its market in such countries as Iran and
"In the coming year at least, Russia's defense industries will become
more reliant on domestic orders," DIA said.
