Britian Warns Of Insurgency Threat In UAE
LONDON [MENL] -- Britain has determined that its nationals were under threat
of an Al Qaida attack in the United Arab Emirates.
The British Foreign Office said British nationals in the UAE face a
high risk of an insurgency threat. The British ministry said unidentified
insurgency groups were believed to be planning a major strike in the
emirates.
"There is a high threat from terrorism," the Foreign Office said. "We
believe terrorists may be planning to carry out attacks in the UAE."
The Foreign Office did not specify the threat. But officials said the
reference was to Al Qaida.
This was the first time in years that Britain has warned of the
likelihood of a major insurgency strike in the UAE. Unlike most GCC states,
the UAE has never been struck by Al Qaida.
