ATHENS [MENL] -- Greece has introduced its first Leopard-2 main battle tank
into military service.
The Hellenic Army has deployed its first Leopard-2A6 MBT, manufactured
by Germany's Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The Leopard was acquired by the Hellenic
Army's 25th armored brigade
"Greece has the most modern version of the Leopard-2, and we now look
forward full of confidence to future collaboration with Greece as a strong,
reliable costumer on our side," KMW chief executive officer Frank Haun said
during a ceremony in Xanthi, Greece on May 30.
The ceremony, attended by Greek Deputy Defense Minister Konstantinos
Tasoulas, marked a milestone in the Leopard-2 program in Greece. In 2005,
Greece ordered 170 Leopard-2A6 MBTs in a 1.7 billion euro deal.
