IRAN TO ARM VIGILANTES IN FIGHT WITH REFORMERS

NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran plans to arm vigilantes backed by the rulingconservative clergy in the fight against reformers aligned with PresidentMohammed Khatami. Officials said the Basij volunteers will receive weapons fromauthorities. They said the arming of the vigilantes will be gradual andlimited to those serving in Basij bases.
