CLINTON STOPS BARAK FROM LAUNCHING ATTACK
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- U.S. President Bill Clinton has pressured Israel to delayany offensive against the Palestinian Authority and instead attend aleadership summit to renew peace negotiations. Clinton spoke for more than an hour on late Monday with Israeli PrimeMinister Ehud Barak before an Israeli Cabinet meeting. The meeting wascalled to decide on Israel's next step after Barak's 48-hour ultimatumexpired without what officials said was a significant decrease inPalestinian violence.
