ARMS FIRMS PRESSURE HOUSE TO SHELVE ANTI-TURKISH BILL
WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The House of Representatives, bowing to severe pressureby the Clinton adminstration and U.S. arms contractors, has shelvedlegislation that accused Turkey of annihilating 1.5 million Armeniansbetween 1915 and 1923. The shelving of the Armenian Genocide bill on Thursday came after Ankarathreatened to ban U.S. firms from participating in military and energyprojects in Turkey. The House leadership was then addressed by PresidentBill Clinton, who said U.S. interests were being jeopardized by the proposednon-binding resolution.
