SEIZED U-235 SHIPMENT COULD HAVE BEEN FOR IRAN
LONDON [MENL] -- A shipment of enriched uranium seized in the former Sovietrepublic of Georgia is believed to have been headed for Turkey and fromthere to Iran. Four men were arrested in the Black Sea port of Batumi earlier thismonth on charges of trying to smuggle 1.7 kilograms of weapons-gradeuranium. The uranium-235 is believed to have been stolen from a Russiannuclear submarine and has undergone examination in the Georgian capitalTblisi.
