BOUTEFLIKA EXPECTED TO ASK FOR U.S. MILITARY AID

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Algerian President Abdul Aziz Bouteflika is expected toappeal to the United States for security aid to fight the nearly decade-oldIslamic insurgency. Bouteflika begins a two-day visit to the United States by meetingPresident George Bush at the White House on Thursday. Much of the meeting,diplomatic sources said, will concern Algeria's security situation. TheAlgerian president will also meet Vice President Richard Cheney, Secretaryof State Colin Powell and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice.
