PARLIAMENT OPPOSES SHAMKHANI AS IRANIAN DM

NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iranian parliamentarians are forming a bloc to stop thenomination of Ali Shamkhani as the nation's defense minister. Parliamentarians said they will veto the nomination of several ministersappointed by President Mohammed Khatami. Shamkhani, they said, was kept onas defense minister under pressure from the ruling Iranian clergy.
