IRAN'S VOLUNTEER FORCE EXPECTED TO PLAY MAJOR ROLE

NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran's Basij volunteer forces are expected to play a majorrole in cracking down on rising unrest against the Islamic regime. Iranian officials said the Basij has been receiving additional trainingand equipment over the last few months. The Basij has been deployed alongIran's border with Afghanistan and Pakistan and have quelled studentprotests.
