RUSSIA COMPLETES TESTS OF UPGRADED T-55

LONDON [MENL] -- Russia is nearing completion of an upgrade of its T-55 mainbattle tank. The tank upgrade is meant to compete with that of Moscow's rivals inBelarus and the Ukraine, which have also offered upgrades of agingSoviet-era armored vehicles. The Russian project is meant for export ratherthan for Moscow's military.
