GCC STATES INVEST IN SECURITY PROCUREMENT

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Several Gulf Cooperation Council states have invested insecurity procurement amid concerns of a terrorist backlash in the region. Gulf defense sources said Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia andthe United Arab Emirates are investing in training, law enforcementequipment and perimeter defense systems. The sources said the investment isbased on an assessment that they could be the target of attack by Islamicinsurgents amid plans for a U.S.-led attack on Afghanistan.
