EGYPT RELIEVED OVER U.S. MILITARY AID ISSUE

CAIRO [MENL] -- The regime of President Hosni Mubarak appears relieved overinitial congressional approval to continue U.S. military aid to Egypt. Egyptian officials said that so far Congress has not acted on threats tocut at least $100 million in U.S. military aid to Cairo. The issue is beingpressed by several Republican leaders in the House and Senate dismayed byEgypt's human rights violations as well as efforts to develop anintermediate-rangemissile.
