U.S. UPSET AS ISRAEL COUNTERATTACKS

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has expressed dismay over Israelipolicy toward the Palestinian Authority. U.S. officials said the Bush administration has sent several messages toIsraeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that urge him to withdraw fromPA-controlled territory and resume peace efforts with the Palestinians. Theofficials said the White House was also upset by Sharon's appeal toWashington not to sacrifice Israel in U.S. efforts to form an internationalcoalition against terrorism.
