TURKEY FAILS TO APPROVE M-60 TANK DEAL

ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey, beset by U.S. pressure and a growing fiscal crisis,has failed to name a winner in the M-60 tank upgrade project. Defense sources said the M-60 deal has been stymied by a range ofproblems. First, Ankara cannot afford the upgrade. In addition, Turkey isbeing pulled by pressure from both Israel and the United States, both ofwhom are competing for the project.
