TURKEY CANCELS FRENCH EW DEAL FOR F-16s

ANKARA [MENL] -- Turkey has canceled a nearly $200 million deal for a Frenchcompany to install its electronic warfare system in Ankara's F-16 fleet. The move by the Turkish military General Staff appears to dash the lasthopes of the Paris-based Thales to win a project to install the EW system onthe F-16s. The United States had opposed the participation of Thales as aprime contractor for the American-made fighter-jets.
