SAUDIS INCREASE SUPERVISION OF RELIGIOUS POLICE

ABU DHABI [MENL] -- Saudi Arabia has assured Western allies that the kingdomwill increase supervision over the religious police to prevent them fromharassing foreign nationals during the Ramadan fast month. Western diplomatic sources said Riyad has relayed its commitment toprevent the police, termed the Commission for Promotion of Virtue andPrevention of Vice, from launching raids on housing and facilities used byWestern nationals. Britain, France and the United States are said to haveabout 100,000 citizens in Saudi Arabia.
