U.S. APPEARS TO HAVE STOPPED IRAQI EXPORTS TO EGYPT

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States appears to have ended or sharplyreduced Iraq's massive smuggling of oil to Egypt in violation of UnitedNations sanctions. U.S. officials said the miltiary and intelligence agencies have notdetected any Iraqi shipments of oil to Egypt since August. The suspension ofthe shipments began in wake of the stop-and-search of a ship suspected ofcarrying Iraqi oil to the Egyptian port of Nueiba in August. The ship leftfrom the Jordanian port of Aqaba.
