PA Appoints New Military Adviser

RAMALLAH [MENL] -- The Palestinian Authority has appointed a military
adviser to facilitate training and operations throughout the West Bank.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has selected Brig. Gen. Jihad Al Jayousi as
his new executive military secretary. Under his role, Al Jayousi would be
responsible for developing the National Security Forces, designed to reach
40,000, the largest security agency in the PA.
NSF has been commanded by Maj. Gen. Diab Al Ali. The force now contains
about 6,000 troops.
Al Jayousi, 51, replaced Maj. Gen. Hazem Atallah. Atallah, the son of a
leading Fatah dissident, was appointed police commander in the West Bank.
