ISRAEL RETURNS HARPY UAVs TO CHINA

TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel, bowing to heavy U.S. pressure, has returned Harpyunmanned aerial vehicles to China without conducting a contracted upgrade. Israeli defense sources said the Defense Ministry has returned severalHarpy UAV platforms to Beijing without installing new subsystems and parts meantto enhance the platforms' capabilities. The work was part of a 1995 contractfor the Israeli sale of Harpy attack UAVs to China.
