IAI, German Firm Cooperate On UAV
LONDON [MENL] -- Israel and a leading German defense contractor plan to
market a leading unmanned aerial vehicle.
Germany's Rheinmetall Defence and the state-owned Israel Aerospace
Industries have reached agreement to market IAI's Heron UAV. The two
companies plan to focus efforts on winning a major contract from the German
Army.
Heron has been described as a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV
suitable for strategic and tactical reconnaissance missions. Neither, the
German Army nor security forces possess such a UAV.
The Germany Army has launched a command and control program to link air,
sea and ground assets into a network. The army has been seeking a UAV for
reconnaissance missions by 2010.
