ALGERIA SEEKS NAVAL UPGRADE

MOSCOW [MENL] -- Algeria has been examining a multi-billion dollar projectto modernize its Soviet-origin navy. Russian defense sources said Algeria wants Russia to upgrade Kilo-classsubmarines as well as surface vessels in the Algerian Navy. They said theupgrade could be one of several Algerian naval modernization projectsimplemented by Moscow.
