Milan has been a popular anti-tank missile in the Middle East. The
armies of Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Syria,
Tunisia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have procured and deployed
Milan.
During the first test of the upgraded Milan, executives said, the
missile was fired a distance of 40 meters. As part of a demonstration of
system safety, the warhead did not detonate.
The second test, in a demonstration of missile accuracy, struck a target
at 150 meters. Executives said the missile's front and main charges were
both triggered, with the correct lag time achieved.
The third test was meant to demonstrate system performance against a
moving target at the maximum range of three kilometers. Executives said the
missile followed the line of sight to the target.
"We are proud to offer our customers such a powerful system that can be
deployed with such precision against a wide range of targets." Kaltenegger,
who also heads the multi-national Milan ADT-ER program, said.
