The Black Sea naval exercise was scheduled to last through May 8.
Officials said the maneuvers were being coordinated with NATO, of which
Turkey is a key member.
    Officials said the exercise was meant to enhance search-and-rescue
operations in the Black Sea. They said Turkey regards the Black Sea as under
its sphere of influence.
